Dulhe ka Sehra suhana lagta hai

90s kids including me may try to enjoy new things, new songs, new movies but their hearts still lie in the 90s. And for many their heart still shed a tear drop when they hear song 'Dulhe ka sehra suhana lagta hai' from movie Dhadkan. For initiating those who are not aware,  this was the movie with the epic Anna dialogue "main tumhein bhool jaun yeh ho nahin sakta, aur tum mujhe bhool jao, yeh main hone nahin dunga". Uttered by Shetty Anna to hottie Shetty aka Shilpa. They are going around and some nosy neighbour tells her father about her escapades. Well her father Kiran kumar is kind of father who believes in advices like" isse pahle ki beti apna munh kala kare, uske haath peele kar do" or " isse pahle ki Beti haath se nikal jaay, koi ladka dekh kar usko ghar se hi nikal do". Girl's father takes these advice seriously and finds a fair handsome boy for her daughter as compared to her darkish, lets-call-him-handsome-in- non-conventional-terms boyfriend. Aforementioned song plays at her wedding in the movie. Think ,I have given enough of background.. now lets get started with the task at hand, decoding the song Dulhe ka sehra.

Song is about many things, about celebration of wedding, glorifying Bride's beauty among others. But most importantly it aims to give life lessons to the bride and that too in hurry. The background situation is grim, on her wedding day her ex-boyfriend has not only lost her, his mother also chooses to die the same day making her son the complete tragic hero with the classic dilemma ki teri maa aur maal dono doob rahe hon, to kisko pahle bachayega. Bechara kisi ko nahin bacha pata.

Aise situation mein gyan dene ke liye, there is no person better than Kader khan saab, who comes as the quavval with a bad wig. He starts the song, and says that here comes the bride  with moon like beauty wearing a 'surkh joda' (Red Dress). Blame it on Kader saab's aging eyesight that he sees bride's blue dress as red, but his worldly experience is still sharp. He may have made mistake in judging the colour of bride's dress still he makes perfect prediction about bride's mental condition. In song's first line itself he senses ki ladki ka pahle se koi chakkar hai, and he says with full confidence ki dulhan ka to dil deewana lagta hai.

At the song proceeds, you realise multiple hats Kader saab is wearing besides his bad wig. He is not only the sermon preacher, he is also doing a live commentary on the wedding too. As soon as the saat feras starts, he tells the bride via song about 'seven-lives-bandhan' crap and the bride is scared. Shilpa's breathing rate increases and it is visible by her prominent now-somewhat-fixed nostrils. But her ability to breathe so fast for so long gives you hint of her future career of yoga teacher.

Enough about the bride, the groom is played by none other than our Akki. He plays the goody good Ram whose mother Kaushalya and father Dashrath are long dead, and he is left with step mother Kaikeyee, Mantharas, and kaliyugi Bharat. All are seen in the song giving scary expressions. Ohh.. talk about tensions and apprehensions..

Good thing about the wedding is that it is fast. Within 2 mins, of girl arriving at the mandap, wedding finishes and Vidai takes place. Only shows that baap ne padosiyon ki us advice ko kitna seriously liya tha ki beti ko jaldi se vida karo. Groom starts to depart even without having food at his in-laws but seems to have no complaints for obvious reason. He is that kind of boy who has lived his life believing in arranged marriage in which you marry someone else's girlfriend. No investment, full profits. In obvious excitement, he tries to cuddle with the grieving bride, who promptly shrugs off his advances ki mauka mila nahi ki shru ho gaye.  Heartless baap gets emotional sometimes but doesn't forget to push the car outside his premises in hurry. Meanwhile Kadar saab continues with his chants of Dhadkan Dhadkan and puts the wig glue and clips to full performance testing. Song finishes and so does the wedding ceremony within seven minutes.

A relook at this wedding song is an effort to give a soothing touch to grieving hearts of those whose weddings got postponed due to Covid. I am sure they are thinking ki kaise bhi shaadi karwa do, 5 minute ke andar fera, mangalsutra, vidai sab kar lenge.. bas shaadi karwa do. My message to them is 'Control your Dhadkan Dhadkan. Stay hopeful .. stay safe' .. And enjoy the song here..
