What I earned at SCMHRD

"Dil inka dariya hai, aur maan samandar, shekhar
Har kaam ko yeah Just in Time ke sath karte hain
Sawdhan, inke wyang ke bann bade tez hote hain
Khushi aur kamyabi aapko binmange milti rahen.

--Bikash

I have always admired your intelligence and the way you display your superiority of concepts without being snobbish. I also remember the attempts we made to make sense out of our dismantled group and i shall always cherish the fun, frolic, mockery of it all. I also remember the impromptu presentations that we made and the way Shaswat impeccably delivered them ;-).....You shall always be remembered as a guy who is blessed with a simple heart and who enjoys life with a heartfelt laughter where ever he goes..--Alws be the same--Shefali

What did MBA do to us?

What did MBA do to us?

1)      We are older by 2 years.

2)      We are poorer by at least a million rupees.

3)      We are heavier by 8 Kg.

4)      We know 20 more subjects, which we are poor at.

5)      We went through a schedule severe than 3rd degree for the MBA degree

6)      We learnt that Teacher’s Day is on 5th September but Teacher’s Night can be any calendar night.

7)      We learnt, if you are asleep at 2 AM in the night, you are not social. Sleeping in class is cool.

8)      We learnt that lying and fooling people about a thing is also called selling.

9)      We learnt that case studies tell you how some Asshole got lucky and successful by sheer chance, and then another asshole related success to some management fundas.

10)    We learnt that preparing project reports is mandatory. Reading even your own report is optional. We have buttons for Copy (CTLR+C), Paste (CTLR +V). Ever wondered why there is no shortcut for reading like (CTLR+R)? Simple... reading is never that needed!!

11)   We learnt that creating presentations is similar to making animation movies. It’s your animations and special effects that are going to tickle the audience. Content is a far secondary required thing. Nobody is listening to you. They are waiting for you to finish.

But it gave us friends for a life time and a confidence to conquer the world. And for this, we paid a really small price as above mentioned points. MBA is more than a degree. It is an experience.  What an experience!! Love you all fellow SCMHRDians!! God Bless our alma mater..

SCMHRD Singles Ki Sad Story

After getting some favorable responses to my earlier post” Kampus Kouples ki Kute Kahani”( http://goo.gl/u3gRF),   I am back with its sequel.

When I started writing this post, I had thought of writing about more categories of couples. But I thought it will be a gross injustice to the majority of junta who were singles. Not everyone is lucky enough to get a girlfriend or boyfriend in a MBA campus.

As it’s a democracy, I must dedicate a post to the “Bahujan and Oppressed and Ignored and Struggling and Trying and Trying and Trying” kind of people who were sadly called singles.

Here you go:

1)      The “Honorary Faculty “singles: These were mostly male singles with amazing academic knowledge and passion. They had so much of knowledge that they always wanted to spread their knowledge to everyone regardless of their age, color, height, and batch. Well they had only one reservation. Their knowledge was only for the opposite sex. It’s fair. Dear cribbing souls from same sex: No body promised you a life full of justice. These singles burnt midnight oil to read the course content so that no body reads it before them and they can have the competitive advantage when it comes to teach the opposite sex. They sat in library, prepared notes, prepared probable questions, suggested page numbers of books to be referred, published solutions before other lazy junta even started preparing for exams. They were like saviors and super-heroes for the damsels in distress. They were powerful too. They controlled which elective will run in the next semester, as everyone followed their “Elective fatwa’s”. But as someone said... either you die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself as a villain. Many of them, after having such great rapport with opposite sex, found it hard to find a companion. Forget a Girlfriend, for some even a date from freshers was not available. Life sucks!!

2)      The “Devdas-without-Paro-without-Chandramukhi” singles: These singles could give Devdaas run for his money when it came to boozing. They often displayed their exceptional capacity during batch-parties when they didn’t need water or soda to finish 3 old monks in one evening. Unfortunately, unlike “honorary faculty” singles their talent had few takers in the opposite sex. So they were reduced to being heavy drinkers with jumbo Patiala pegs in their hands, looking at their potential Paros and Chandramukhis’ flirting, dancing and laughing with others. We hostel mates were witness to their loud thinking extempore thoughts which continued till they puked in the corridor. It’s really sad to see girls giving almost no attention such guys, who could have cared most about them. They truly believed that there are two kinds of girls: Good girls and very good Girls. They never thought any girl to be bad. Anything walking, crawling... running swimming with a skirt was acceptable to them. Yet no luck!! Life is never  fair.

3)      The “Fish-in-the-Pond” singles:  The great Sufi Poet Saint Kabir once Wrote “Paani beech meen Pyasi... Mohe Suni Suni aawat haasi”. Meanings (a fish is thirsty while living in a pond, Its really amusing). Well no other poem could have better described this category of singles. These are called “Fish-in-the-pond” singles because I found great similarities between fish Saint Kabir Described and these singles. They lived in the company of woman, yet had no woman in life while no one wanted a woman more than they did. Water water every where not a drop to drink. It was really sad to see such singles. There is a basic rule these singles didn’t understand. For not remaining a single, you have to like a “single” girl, but one girl was never sufficient for them. There life was based on theory “ ek se mera kya hoga”. This kind of singles got at least three photographs with every female on the campus. ; It’s really sad to see many of them reached a situation when their life song is “ ek bhi nahin, ab mera kya hoga”. Life... you know... Badi kutti cheez hai..

4)      The “MataDurga” Singles: These single girls had a mystery around them. Nobody knew whether they were singles or dating somebody. Nobody knew whether they will ever need a man in their life. Many believers in conspiracy theory even believed they were not even girls. As goddess Durga has nine different Avatars worshipped on different days of Navratra,  “Mata Durga” also contains different Avatars of single girls. One of the categories was “ mata Chandi”. Like Mata Chandi, these single girls never believed in any make up or beautification of face. They always came in their out-of-den look with shabby cloths, un-waxed limbs and 100% pristine eyebrows. They never needed a man, they never got any. Other type of woman were “Mata Sidhhi-datri” . They were so caring and so motherly; it was so hard for guys to look towards them as their dream girl. They cannot expect a treatment like Lady gaga in attire of Mother Teresa. My post is too short to describe all Avatars of “Mata Durga” singles.

Again, I have crossed my mental word limit for a post, with so much still in my mind. But some things should remain in mind not in writing. Before publishing this post, I tried to get a life insurance, but unfortunately got none. All Life insurance companies said, after writing this post, we can’t take risk on your life. So I am pleading... Please don’t kill me, if you are hurt. I want to live. I promise to be more politically correct in my future posts.

Kampus Kouples Ki Kute Kahani

This was sort of a small get together for some SCMHRDians at Yosha’s Wedding reception. We thoroughly enjoyed the reception with lots of food, friends, fun and some freaky jokes by Dear Hiru and Polo. What our batch mates talked about on a wedding?  You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to guess this one. We talked about couples in our MBA batch.

These days, Every time I refresh the browser in Facebook account, I see a new picture someone getting married or engaged!! It’s lovely to get such nice updates. It also reminds me of many types of couples, I happened to see during my MBA days. I have my observations based on my campus but it can be a story of any campus or co-ed school.  Human nature is essentially the same!!

Here are the different kinds of couples you see around in an MBA campus:

1) The “Spice” Couples: The name  “The Spice Couple”  has nothing much to do with Spices you use in your kitchen. They are called Spice couple because; if Plural of Mouse is Mice and plural of Louse is lice, Plural of Spouse Should be “ Spice”.  The only reason the Spice couple was not selected for movie the  “Ek Duje ke liye” is simply that they were not born at that time. This kind of  couple always remained together and had some amazing planning skills. They developed this skill discussing their family plans for future all the time. We batch mates realized their amazing Planning powers when they won couple of Business Plan competitions!!!  Family planning skills improvised for making business plans. We wish their Family plan also be a winner like their business plans!

2) The “Symbiosis” Couples: The name comes from the ‘symbiotic’ relationship these couples were in. They truly believed in “You-scratch-my-back-I-scratch-your”   theory.  No wonder they were often seen scratching each other’s.....well.. Not back exactly!!! These couples were often spotted in various “symbiotic” positions within and outside the campus like parking lots, swimming pool and E-square corner seats. These couples were also characterized by their simultaneous absence from the campus for their cousin's marriage respectively. Though when they returned, from their hometowns after attending their family functions respectively, surprisingly both had the same Goa tan on their skins!! Global warming .. u know.. !! every city can give you that Goa Tan!!    These were the couple who truly showed that love is eternal and cannot be destroyed.  It can only be transferred to other love partners. Many of them after leaving campus, have found other symbiotic partners at their new locations and are happy.

3) The “Take-my-trip.com” Couples:  Looking at these couples made be believe in the phrase “Love is blind” like never before. At least one of the members of the couple was in love for sure, because he/she was certainly blind to see/understand what other one was doing. Though everyone in the campus knew that who among the couple was being used as a “cash cow” and who was the “cow-owner”!!! The “cow” in the couple often presented the “Owner” class notes, free dinners, movie shows and birthday gifts. As in marketing strategy, “cash cows” were often killed for some other “star”!! That’s exactly Kotler taught us.. Right?  For more information on these couples you can log in to the URL http://www.take-my-trip.com. Many of them are still available for your trip!!

4) The “RAC” couples: First thing first... RAC stands for “Reservation against Cancellation (RAC)”.  It was Indian railways who introduced this RAC concept for reservations of berths in the trains, which were very popular. There were more people wanting to travel in the train than there were seats.  So railways started booking tickets against berths already booked, so that in case of confirmed passengers cancelling their tickets, RAC passengers could get the berth. This RAC methodology was meant for optimal use of resources. Well our RAC couple consisted of one “reserved” berth and one person trying for that berth. Benefits to the “reserved” berth was the constant attention and care, he/she got during tense MBA schedule. The other one had nothing but the hope. After all, Hope is a great thing.  Like Railways “RAC” passengers, the "passenger" in RAC couple also had two possible ends: either they ended up being in waitlist and never got confirmed or sometimes got confirmed when “Confirmed” passengers got seat somewhere else or got some bad feedback on the train and decided to cancel their reservation.

5) The “Elective” couple:  The people forming “the elective couple” were formed by the couple who took their MBA curriculum very seriously. The adopted the “elective” methodology for choosing their love partners. As curriculum electives, Partner electives were also chosen for one semester only. Each semester they chose different electives... I mean partners. Depending upon merit of the electives, the time devoted to each elective was proportionate to the “credits” of the elective. You can easily guess, these people chose many “Non-credit-electives” or even had some really short” workshops” too!!!
I have crossed the acceptable word limit for this post. Depending upon the responses to this post, I will decide whether to write about other categories.  Enjoy..

Have you done MBA from SCMHRD?

You have NOT done MBA from SCMHRD if you believe that:

1)      Excel sheets can be used only for data crunching and have nothing to do with @$$ wiping.

2)      Sundays should be holidays and should be spent at home relaxing. After all what’s Sunday lacks as compared to Monday to be called a Holiday. All days are equal.

3)      Learning Finance, Marketing, HR or Operations is more important than Learning Vedanta. Unlike Vedanta, other knowledge will be handy only till you are alive. We are prepared with knowledge to deal with problems coming in life  beyond death in hell or heaven.

4)      White house or NASA headquarters are the most heavily guarded and secured places on earth. Buddy.. You are yet to visit our Placements and Examination department.

5)      OOP means Object Oriented Programming. It means Out Of Placements. An extra degree which many of us get only after displaying suitable potential and characters for the same. Very few extraordinary chaps got higher degree called  TNG ( terms not granted) .

6)      Costliest food is served only in Five star hotels. Dude, just do the simple maths by dividing the mess fee paid by number of meals you had at mess not from Prahlads. You will know what is costlier.

7)      You should be allowed to carry in mobile in your classes.  How will you concentrate on the class given the threats you will continuously get from 9898989898.

8)      Chief Learning officer is a post related to Learning. Only bigger lie than this is that I wont die. Mere Bhai.. If CLO starts thinking about learning, who will sign Exemption applications!!!

9)      Number of buildings of any MBA institute will be a natural number. Ha ha ha.. Mathematicians are yet to find out how many buildings exactly SCMHRD has. I can tell you number of buildings only upto 15 significant digits. Number of buildings of SCMHRD as per latest research was  0.333333333333333. This number is nothing less magical than value of Pi.

10)   Exemptions are about financially poor students getting a waiver in fees. It is actually about a litmus tests which shows how much jugaad you can get from committees and how is your relationship with attendance department.

11)   If you fail in a subject, your grades are screwed. No way.. Actually your chances of getting an A+ have enhanced by atleast 5 times by spending rs 300 per failure. And you thought re-takes is a filmi word!!!

12)   Last but not the least : Your institute’s name is SCMHRD. Actually its SCM and HRD. Sorry by this criterion I am not an MBA from SCMHRD. Please let me know how many of you still feel they have done MBA from SCM&HRD.
